Desert view

A white dromedar grazing with his herd on a rare spot of green, we were lucky to see quite a lot green spots a it has been haevily raining a few days before we arrived.

Trees like these looked dead dry, but there were some reeeaally small green sprouts on some of them as proof that life had not abandoned them yet.

Wind carving the fantastic textures into a dune. Even if the wind is not very strong you still can see it moving the ultra fine grains of sand, so there is steady movement in that region where you get the impression even time holds its breath.

Dried out tree, you had to be careful while picking up wood for the night as some of the trees were not as dead as the looked. So when you’re in the desert, just “pick” up the wood, don’t rip it out. If you need force to get it, the plant will regain life again during the next rain.

Hard, wet sand gets formed by the wind and dries out and crumbles and gets blown away.

This was our ride for this expedition. A sturdy, reliable (though it’s a car built by Britons) and magnificent performer in difficult terrain.

This is a cozy desert cafe, where you can get ice-cold coke, hints and advices, repairs, a guide… And great, heart warming and true hospitality!

This is an artificial “oasis” from a slightly sulfuric source.

Around the artificial lake splendid vegetation could be found, which attracted a lot of wildlife as birds, too.

The sandy ridges of the dunes look like giant scales of a dragon.

This was the ride of one of our Crew members (www.ubelix.de (in German)). A six ton Unimog 1300 L with a really compfy caravan extension. Despite its size and especially height it did very well in the dunes!

The play of light and shadow is really magic, I could never get tired of observing it.
